Total Recordable Injury Rate Reduction

The consultant drastically reduced corporate liability by reducing the Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) in a plant of 450 persons from 8.0 to 1.5. This equated to reducing the Workers Compensation expense from $250,000 to $30,000 annually.

The improvement in safety performance was accomplished by first determining the safety culture of the plant, then following with the development and implementation of a safety process that worked specifically for that plant. One part of the improved process involved developing and implementing an Incident Investigation process. Management and supervision had to be trained on how to conduct a thorough investigation following an incident, then determine the proper mitigation to prevent continued incidents of a similar type.

Management and employee audits of unsafe conditions in the plant were part of the new safety process. These audits had significant impact on employee participation and buy-in to the new safety process.
