Telecommunications Patent Infringement

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

One of the largest telecomm providers brought a suit forward against a competitor alleging patent infringement related to their use of VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). The case was heavy with technical testimony which posed the question: how does council effectively present information not readily understood by the layperson? For the claimant, the answer was clear : animation.

The consultant produced a number of animations demonstrating how voice signals are converted to packet data, and how that information flows up and downstream.

The Result

The claimant was awarded significant damages which actually exceeded those originally pursued. In post trial polling, the jurors credited the demonstratives as being integral in helping them understand the technology, as well as clearly delineating how the defendant was in violation of the claimant's patents.
