This expert started as a system developer when responsible for development of the technological processes for automation in industry. It can be a complicated job to make the total system work. You may have to solve some "local" problems, which can be the major problems in the whole system, in addition to working with other resources limitations and schedule restrictions. For example, for the adaptive systems: you may have a control conception but may not have available the required industrial "ready to go" sensors; where the existing sensors do not provide enough sensitivity, noise immunity, compactness, ability to work in hazardous environment etc. Thus, special sensors were developed, based on electromagnetic field changes sensitivity and simple frequency discrimination, for the best immunity.

Later, while working on the Power Systems for mobile applications (as an example of the "local" problem), this expert was hit by the mechanical failures of the motor-generators during the primary mover's (diesel engine) start. From one side, you have controlled start of the PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine) from the vector controlled converter, which can match the stalled torque of the engine. But to overcome the stalled torque is not enough (especially for the cold start at minus 40 C). You need to also provide sufficient torque to overcome "break down" torque, which the diesel professionals estimate as equal 80%-100% of the maximum torque developed by the engine, in addition to the stalled torque. And this factor can bring an absolutely different design approach to the whole system : Currently, ultracapacitors are becoming the necessary part of the system, in addition to "shaving" peak power functions without increasing the power rating for all system's power components etc.
