In this assignment the expert consultant was asked to examine a company's plan for semiconductor metrology products for the next five years, provide an assessment of the way in which the company was planning to exploit their unique metrology technology, and make recommendations how the company might improve its potential for increasing revenue and market share at the semiconductor manufacturing companies worldwide. At the time of the assignment the company was in the process of committing its product line to a "cluster tool" concept so that multiple metrology systems could be incorporated into a single station. This consultant pointed out the flaws in this cluster tool concept for their products and made recommendations to how they might modify their product strategy and product specifications using their technology to better address the market. The company acted on this advice and saved themselves from a potentially damaging strategy that would certainly have lost them market share in their chosen area.
