Portable Satellite Communications Antenna System Analysis

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The consultant analyzed a portable satellite communications (SATCOM) antenna system in order to determine system performance under various deployment scenarios. The consultant determined, through numerical electromagnetic analysis and subsequent antenna measurements, that the antenna suffered significant gain reduction if it was improperly deployed, which could render the SATCOM link unusable. Both the antenna and satellite performance degradations under improper deployment conditions were quantified through simulation and measurement and suggestions were made to improve the mechanical design of the antenna to preclude improper deployment by system users.
