Experiment in Advanced Technology Laboratory supported on isolated block covered by bridging floor.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology focuses on development and application of technology related to measurements and standards. Much of the research conducted by the agency requires high levels of accuracy, necessitating very stable environments and extremely low levels of vibration. In the prototype Advanced Technology Laboratory sensitive experiments are supported on a 70-ton concrete block that rests on ten level-controlled air-springs. A floor that bridges the vibration-isolated block permits researchers to operate and adjust experiments without disturbing them.

Working with the prime design firm, this consultant performed site vibration and noise surveys, provided design support, and carried out performance and evaluation tests.
