Robotics and Human Engineering Laboratory, Expert Consultant Resume

This associate has experience in robotics, human machine systems, control sciences, and artificial locomotion. Additional specializations include assist devices and mechatronics. The consultant has provided litigation support in related areas.

Research interests include human-machine systems, robotics, control systems, and mechatronics. Further interests include machine design, orthoses and prostheses, bioengineering, and power and propulsion. Research activities are focused on the design and control of all class of robotic systems. This expert has developed the foundation for the design and control of orthotic exoskeleton systems worn by humans to augment and alter human mechanical strength and capability while the wearer's intellect remains the central control system for manipulating the robot.

This consultant has provided direction of a research project with support from the Department of Defense to develop exoskeleton orthotic systems. The objective of this research work is to develop the fundamental principals on materials, electronics, control software, and propulsion of orthotic exoskeleton systems. The device will enable one to carry approximately 200 pounds over any sort of terrain for an extended period of time without undue effort. The hypothesis is that the machines will reduce the possibility of the wearer becoming fatigued and reaching his/her physiological endurance limit during critical missions. The technology developed in this research work is currently being extended to aid persons with disability.

This consultant has also been conducting research on human performance in coordinated haptic-visual virtual environments under several contracts from NASA during the last five years. The objective of this work is the development of advanced haptic interfaces for use in coordinated visual-haptic virtual environments (VEs) for human computer interaction.
