Consultant, Kevin Kennedy Associates Inc.
Providing project management, electrical engineering, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and high frequency analog and digital circuit expertise,
failure analysis,
forensic engineering, consulting and related expertise to a wide variety of clients.
Principal Engineer, Solectron Corporation, Durham, NC
Provided consulting services to external clients in product specification, analysis, design and test to meet Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) regulatory and commercial requirements. Specified and managed an EMC laboratory, with Open Field Site and Anechoic chamber. Performed EMC tests for compliance to FCC, European and industry standards (Bellcore). Analyzed and solved EMC problems in the laboratory. Specified, designed, and analyzed high frequency filters used in a variety of communications input/output interfaces. Prepared the laboratory for ISO17025 accreditation.
Senior Engineer, RF Microdevices, Greensboro, NC
Developed circuit techniques for mitigation of transient and constant wave noise in high frequency GaAs HBT integrated circuits and systems in broadband cable modem applications (5 MHz to 1000 MHz). Developed system level and circuit level computer simulations of transient (Electrostatic Discharge) and Constant Wave noise sources to study effects on QAM and up-converter and down-converter designs in cable modem applications. Models were implemented using SPICE and MathCad. Designed laboratory measurement methods to collect data to verify simulation results. Provided design and product engineering support for development and production of RF power amplifiers used in mobile phones.
Senior Engineer, Nortel Networks, RTP, NC
Performed simulations of RF emissions from high frequency circuit boards using Cadence UNICAD simulation software. Simulations were used to determine design changes required for EMC compliance. Performed EMC design reviews of high and voice frequency boards, high speed back planes, power supplies, circuit assemblies, shelves and frame systems, and collaborated with design teams in the implementation of design changes in the early stages of the development cycle.
Associate Engineer to Staff Engineer, Square D Company, Knightdale, NC
Specified, developed, and managed an EMC laboratory. Performed analog, power and digital circuit design, test and qualification of photoelectric sensors, variable frequency drives, programmable controllers, electronic relays and other control and power devices. Performed product management and marketing tasks associated with the deployment and new product release of solid state relays. Performed product engineering, field applications and marketing tasks during a product line transfer and commercialization of variable frequency drives in the European market (6-month ex-pat assignment in France).
