In this case, this consultant provided Epidemiologic Investigation assistance, demonstrating specific expertise in a matter involving a group of individuals presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms after attending a get together at a local restaurant.

A report was received about a group of individuals presenting with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea after attending a party at a local restaurant.
An epidemiologic investigation was initiated to identify the illness, the number of individuals exposed, the source and implement control measures to prevent further spread.

A through Epidemiologic Investigation pointed to secondary transmission from an individual who was sick prior to attending the party as the source of the outbreak. Laboratory testing confirmed the food contaminated by the individual that was the source of transmission.

Remedial and environmental cleaning measures were recommended to prevent further spread. Education on the mode of transmission and methods of prevention was provided. Ongoing surveillance to identify new cases and evaluate effectiveness of control measures was initiated and the outbreak was contained.
